Scientific name: Verbena officinalis L.
Synonyms: Verbena domingensis Urb., Verbena macrostachya F.Muell.
Common names: Hierobotan, verbena, gorgogianni, cruciferus, dandelion, spindlegrass.
It is a perennial herb with stems upright and corrugated, with sparse and harsh hairs and reaches a height of up to 80 cm.
Its stems are opposite, toothed and flanked, the flowers are cyan or violet, arranged in long ears and appear at the beginning of the summer. Flowers are hermaphrodite and are fertilized by bees, flies, lepidoptera.
The flavor is slightly bitter and greasy and the odor is fragrant when rubbed.
We find it all over the country at grassland, roadside, in lowland and semi-mountainous cool areas, in poor, moderate fertility fields without much water.
The overhead part is collected shortly before the flowers of the plant open, drying the plant quickly to avoid spoiling.
